Seed Journal - S words

My seed journal took a valium and slowed down. I'm just now finishing prompt 3, S words.
This was a fun prompt.  I used spray inks for background, drew in the words using metallic gel pens.  Then added the additional words with stickers (that I found at .99 cent store) and they rub off and reveal a color!

This was fun, and I learned new words!

Wednesday

Artist Loft Watercolor Paints

I hardly ever buy art supplies at regular price, I always use a coupon.  I stopped by my craft store on Sunday with a coupon and found a small set (24 mini  tubes) of watercolor paints for $2.99!
I've never used watercolor paints before and been so curious.  As soon as I got home I pulled out my art journal and got to work.
I started by spraying the page with water.  Then I began adding various colors.  Once dry, I drew my girl in with the color black.
I'm very happy with my new paints.I'm not a pro, my opinion is lacking experience but these paints worked for me and they were a deal!

Happy Art Journaling

Is your Muladhara/Root Chakra balanced?

I know mine is not.  If any of these resonate with you it may indicate attention to the first chakra is needed.

  • If you feel you've lost trust in life
  • If you're easily overwhelmed by life
  • If you are constantly looking for security in life
  • If you suffer from sciatica or throw your back out
  • If you have a tendency toward back pain
  • If you have problems with your colon and elimination
  • If you don't feel present in your body
  • If you feel afraid of life
  • If you feel isolated, abandoned
  • If you have difficulty manifesting what is needed in life
  • If you feel you are lost
  • If bad habits and addictions are ruling your life
A person with a balanced Muladhara has a powerful will to live, is grounded in life, inner strength, passion and a sense of trust and security in life and themselves.  Tend to be steady on their feet and not easily thrown by circumstances surrounded them.

I can tell by the way I am struggling to create my pieces of art that I still need work.  I can journal all my emotions, however, translating that onto my art journal page has become somewhat of a challenge. Which is the reason I am trying to art journal one page a week.  I want to see and share my progression with you.  This last weekend I was inspired to create my Root Chakra page on a 11 x 14 canvas that I picked up at Big Lots.  I was unable to start it until Saturday afternoon.  Then it progressed.  I'm still working on it but here is the start.

I used acrylic paints for the background.  Red, White, and Black.  I was inspired by the idea of dualism and looking beyond it, which inspired the black and white background.  I believe in order to balance this chakra I must go beyond this state of thinking.

I then used a CD to create a circle.  I added paint to it, put it on the canvas and rotated it to create a circle.  I then spray painted, in silver, 7 little circles, added a flower with a heart shaped brad.  The buttons were added last.  So far, I'm loving it.

Used some rubber bands and mini clothes pins and laid them down as stencils a la Traci Bautista and spray inked them in red and added the word RED.  I then took some bleach and a stamp.  I dipped my stamp in a bleach soaked face towel and stamped the canvas wherever I felt it was needed.  It looks more prominent on the light side.  I like how it looks textured and not recognizable.

Close up of the bleach stamping.

Wishing you lots of healing and exploring!

Dear Tmobile

Dear Tmobile,

My name is not important, what is important is that I've been a loyal customer of yours since 2004, which has added up to 8 years of payment for service.  That translates to thousands of business dollars that I've dropped in your pocket.

I started with Tmobile when it was 2 years old.  I have been through many experiences with the company and they have all been great and worthy of my patronage, until now.  It all started when you decided to change my payment due date, instituted a late fee/suspension fee of $20.00, and DIDN'T ADVISE ME.  My bill has jumped to $120.00 for one phone, which means I'm paying $100.00 for my unlimited data, single line.  I walked into to store today and noticed a promo - 2 PHONES AT $49.99 EACH - unlimited data!  Sounds pretty ridiculous to me seeing that I've been a great customer for so long.

Speaking of which, where is the appreciation for customers who have been dedicated to your company?  I would imagine in today's market a business would try and keep as many loyal patrons as possible, because the competition is tough.

Anyhow, I decided to stick it out with you guys even after this change.  So what has happened...I lost my phone and was informed I have to pay a deductible for a new one. Say what?!?!  Never in my history have I EVER had to pay a deductible...and I've always had insurance.  The most I paid was $20.00 for the overnight delivery.  I refuse to pay for another phone from a company that is no longer meeting my needs.  The deductible is $130.00...the cancellation fee is $200.00 plus tax, do you see where I'm going with this?

I called in from a TMO store, because I don't have a phone, and it took me all of 5 minutes to cancel my account with your company, and while that is efficient, it has left a very bad taste in my mouth.  The representative did offer to go ahead and discount any phone I wanted, except the one I needed replaced, because it was not available.  Cell phones have become a necessity but there is always an underdog more appreciative of it's clients.

Underdog, here I come!

That is all.

Thursday

Plans for the weekend

I hope to finish a few pages I started, including the prompt for the One Year Art Journal.  I also bought a 100 page sketchbook in which I am drawing my stylized faces.  Practice, practice, practice.
Also working on a second Root page for my Chakra Healing Journal.  I want to see the difference from the time I start to the end.  I will focus on 4 pages per chakra.  This is something I'm doing, I want to see the artistic evolution of the healing.  I felt my page was too...cluttered.  Didn't have purpose.  It was...off.  After meditating on the matter I decided to make a page every weekend.  I will have 4 of each chakra, 28 pages total.  I'm very excited.  I hope you feel free to join in anytime you want.

Wednesday

Bob Marley Canvas Bag

So I renewed my interest in stencils.  We made this stencil of Bob Marley and I loved it so much I made a bag for myself.

I began by inking the background with fabric spray inks.  Allowed to dry overnight.  Although I used the heat gun because I was excited.   I then placed the stencil on top of the background and dabbed it with black silk screen ink to ensure it won't fade.  Ever.

I'm so happy with how it came out.  Fantastic and one of a kind!  Of course these can be custom made, and duplicated.  If interested please let me know and I can throw it up on etsy, or ebay, and if local, we can meet up.

Saturday

Chakra Journal Healing Series - Muladhara/Root

Hello March!

The dawning of new beginnings, novelty, and light.  I decided to do this beginning today and I want to give you a few details before we get started, because I would love for you to join me on this journey.  I think this will become a meditation/art journal for me.  Every prompt I do will be for one Chakra, therefore the page will be monochromatic, to a certain extent.  I want to give as little direction as possible and color is very important to each chakra.  At the end we will have 7 pages, and these pages can be used as a method of meditation.  It is up to you how to house them.  I oftentimes frame my pages, which allows me to display them and change them whenever I feel necessary.  You can even put them in a binder, or even better, use a playing card!  That way you can carry them around and use them as necessary during the day.  I digress, do what you like, in any size, and in any medium.  It is up to you, and for you, so make it special.
Here are the tools I am using to balance my Muladhara.
Color:  Red.  I've been trying to meditate on the color red while focusing on the root area.  So far I've only done it in my mind, however, I may make some small pages to carry around and begin meditating visually as mentioned above.
Mantra/Meditation:  Lam.  I have been chanting this Bija Mantra. Here's a video for proper pronunciation.
Music: I'm listening to Steven Halperin's "Chakra Suite".  I basically listen to the whole CD, and the root chakra on repeat for a while.
Asanas: I'm doing butterfly pose, squat leading into chair, and perlvic rotations.  Please note I have a regular yoga and meditation practice and I've incorporated these things into it, and have substituted others.  Feel free to use any of these things with which you are familiar and comfortable.  Perhaps even become curious, be like a child and feel.
Art Prompt:  Use one of the 3 affirmations below to feature on your "page", and use the color RED.
     - I trust in the power of life.
     - I feel at home in my body.
     - I am sustained and nourished by nature.
Choose whichever speaks to you.

Here is my Root Chakra Art Journal page.

I began with spray inks.

I then added some collage.

Topped it with gesso to add more layers.

I then added some pastels, and water color crayons.

Added a light lay er of gesso, then i used stencils and gesso'd them in.

Then I added glitter glue, watercolor crayons, and more pastels.

Finished it with white out pen, more glitter, and some ink stamps.

Close up.

Here's a close up of the stamped image.

I used the prompt which has spoken to me lately.  I have to have trust and faith.  I really like how this page came out, even though it has about 10 layers because I made a few boo-boos, which can totally be covered up with gesso...that's why I keep lots of it.  I used flowers and leaves to remind me that all comes from nature and that the trees are not bothered by us, so why should I bother?  Life is too short and very sweet to suffer willingly.  The circle represents life, however, I see it more as a spiral.  So I added them as well.

Thank you for reading to the end.  This is a rather long post and I appreciate you sticking it out.  I hope you try your hand at art journaling.  I'm here to help, guide, aid, assist, and listen.  Please reach out if you have anymore questions.
